Job Containment

3/7/2018 (Permalink)

A containment is the first step in restoration process. However, little mention is given to the first part of a disaster. According to a Restoration & Remediation magazine article

“The restoration professional is likely to encounter substances like mold, microbials, toxin-producing pathogens, meth lab residues, fire residues and friable lead and asbestos…without containing these potentially toxic substances, at the source and within a confined area, they are likely to end up creating a significantly larger mess than first encountered and quickly saturate the air being inhaled by workers, homeowners and occupants of the affected buildings” (Scott Lavelle).

Our picture shows our employee during a containment process that needed to be done to protect the non-affected areas from dust. This took place before the demolition process of drywall, insulation and floor.

SERVPRO of Whittier Lets Nothing Stand in the Way of Great Customer Service

Here at SERVPRO of Whittier we understand that customer service means more than simply smiling and being polite. It means understanding our customers, offering them the care they need, and having patience with them. After all, most of our customers have just suffered a hardship. With that, we also don’t let anything stand in the way of satisfying our customers. There is a way around every complication and it is our job to find it, like with our recent customer suffering with Alzheimer’s.

We received a call from a homeowner in Corona who needed our help with a leak in her kitchen. Our technician Abraham Navrette was dispatched to the job in Corona to conduct one of our free inspections, and determine how much was affected by the water. Abraham quickly discovered that she had water damage to her cabinets. When Abraham had consulted with the customer, he realized communication might be a little complicated. In order to ensure that the customer was well informed of the required procedures, our technician found it easiest to identify and inform a second point of contact. Upon doing so, he was informed of the customer’s condition.  Due to the difficulty the customer experienced understanding the situation; Abraham continued to use the second point of contact. This allowed for smooth, efficient communication between both parties and a better understanding of our work for the customer.  He continued to keep them both updated until his work there was complete.  His ability to remain consistent and patient is what made it possible for our team to restore her kitchen in a timely manner, allowing her to get on with life as usual.

Safeguard Envirogroup President Brad Kavor Stops by SERVPRO of Whittier

Our SERVPRO of Whittier Team enjoying our early morning refresher course!

Being knowledgeable is key to properly eliminating all threats that can be caused by water damage. Here at SERVPRO of Whittier it is a top priority that our team remains aware of how to identify and deal with the different kinds of damage done to your home or business by various categories of water. That is why we gathered up everyone from our crew to take part in our Saturday morning class taught by Safeguard Envirogroup President and CEO, Brad Kavor about category 3, sewage water.

Brad refreshed our team on the IICRC and RIA standards for the restoration industry. We were given the opportunity to touch bases with all major differences between category 3, sewage water and other classes and categories. We engaged in discussion of the best way to identify and begin emergency services when dealing with the dangers of contaminated water from waste line backflows and hazardous sources. Brad allowed our team to go over the importance of sanitization and safety in situations of category 3. We indulged in the topic of preventing secondary damages and other horrors from happening to our customers and their properties. This was a great opportunity for our team to earn continuing education credits and for us to ensure that the service we provide to our SERVPRO of Whittier customers is of the best quality.
